About This Service

Transmission problems are among the most expensive repairs a vehicle owner can face. A full rebuild or replacement can cost $3,000 to $6,000 or more. The good news is that most transmission failures are preventable with regular fluid service and early attention to symptoms. Transmission fluid breaks down over time from heat and contamination, losing its ability to lubricate, cool, and transfer hydraulic pressure. Fresh fluid is cheap insurance against a catastrophic failure. When problems do develop, catching them early often means the difference between a $200 solenoid replacement and a $4,000 rebuild.

What's Included

Every transmission service service at DallasAutoCarePros is thorough and transparent. Here is exactly what you get.

1

Transmission Fluid Exchange

We drain the old fluid, replace the filter (where applicable), and fill with fresh ATF or manual transmission fluid specified by your manufacturer. We use a fluid exchange machine for automatic transmissions to replace nearly all of the old fluid, not just the 40% that gravity draining removes.

2

Filter Replacement

Automatic transmissions with serviceable filters get a new filter and gasket with every fluid exchange. The filter catches metal particles and debris that cause valve body problems.

3

Pan Inspection

When we drop the transmission pan, we inspect it for metal shavings, debris, and discoloration. What we find in the pan tells us a lot about the internal health of your transmission.

4

Shift Quality Evaluation

We road test the vehicle before and after service, checking for shift timing, firmness, slipping, and any abnormal behavior. If we find an issue, we discuss it with you before proceeding.

5

Cooler Line Inspection

We check transmission cooler lines for leaks, cracks, and corrosion. Leaking cooler lines are a common cause of low fluid level, which leads to overheating and premature failure.

Warning Signs to Watch For

If you notice any of these symptoms, bring your vehicle in as soon as possible. Early attention prevents expensive repairs.

Transmission slips — engine revs but the vehicle hesitates to accelerate
Harsh, delayed, or erratic shifting between gears
Grinding or shaking sensation when shifting, especially in manual transmissions
Transmission fluid is dark, brown, or smells burnt on the dipstick
Puddle of red or brown fluid under the vehicle near the center or front
Check engine light on with transmission-related codes
Vehicle will not engage in Drive or Reverse
Whining, humming, or clunking noise that changes with speed

Our Transmission Service Process

Here is exactly what happens when you bring your vehicle in for transmission service service.

01

Diagnostic Assessment

We start with a road test and scan for transmission-related codes. We check fluid level, color, and smell. If there are symptoms, we run line pressure tests and evaluate shift patterns with our scan tool.

02

Fluid Service

For maintenance services, we drain the old fluid, replace the filter and gasket, inspect the pan, and refill with the correct specification fluid. For fluid exchanges, we use our machine to replace virtually all of the old fluid.

03

Repair (If Needed)

If diagnostics reveal an internal issue — solenoid failure, valve body problem, torque converter concern — we provide a detailed estimate. For major internal repairs, we discuss rebuild vs. remanufactured replacement options and costs.

04

Road Test & Verification

Every transmission service includes a thorough road test afterward. We verify shift quality, timing, and engagement in all gears. We clear any codes and verify monitors pass.

Transmission Service FAQ

Common questions about transmission service service. Have a question not listed here? Call us at (214) 555-0187.

How often should I service my transmission?

Most manufacturers recommend a transmission fluid exchange every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Some newer vehicles have sealed transmissions that claim lifetime fluid — we still recommend service every 60,000 miles because the fluid does degrade. Dallas heat is especially hard on transmission fluid. Check your owner manual, but when in doubt, more frequent service is always better than less.

Is a transmission flush bad for my car?

There is a difference between a flush and an exchange. A high-pressure flush can dislodge debris and cause problems in a neglected transmission. We use a fluid exchange method that works with your transmission pump at normal operating pressure. This safely replaces the old fluid without the risk associated with high-pressure flushing. For severely neglected transmissions, we discuss the best approach on a case-by-case basis.

My transmission is slipping. Does it need a rebuild?

Not necessarily. Slipping can be caused by low fluid level, worn fluid, a failing solenoid, or a valve body issue — all of which are much less expensive than a rebuild. A proper diagnosis will identify the root cause. We always explore the least expensive solutions first and will never recommend a rebuild if a simpler repair will fix the problem.

How much does a transmission rebuild cost?

A transmission rebuild typically costs between $2,500 and $5,500 depending on the vehicle and the extent of internal damage. A remanufactured replacement is often in the same range but comes with a longer warranty. We will give you a clear comparison of options and costs before proceeding with any major transmission work.
